Welding is the process of heating and melting metal to join them together permanently. The Welding Technology program is designed to prepare individuals for employment in the field of welding. The program is a competency based program that includes both theory and hands on practical application based instruction.

Instruction is provided in various processes and techniques of welding and cutting different types of materials.

This includes, but may not be limited to, plasma arc cutting, oxy-fuel cutting, carbon arc cutting, shielded metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, plate and pipe welding. Students will also be trained in blueprint reading for welders. After completion of the program, the student will have covered skills designated by the American Welding Society and will be prepared to take the AWS Entry Level Welding test. The Welding Technology program is approved by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) under the sponsorship of the Alabama Department of Education.
